POLLOK — The Central ISD board of trustees was presented with a request of improving the district's fine arts program during its regular meeting on Thursday evening.
Lori Meadows, primary and elementary music teacher, pleaded her case to the CISD board. "Many of our parents and community leaders have expressed the need for an extracurricular activity that is not sports or agriculturally related," she said. "To have such a program, we need to include more fine arts in our curriculum."
Presently, the district offers music in elementary, art in sixth and seventh grades, and choir in eighth grade.
Meadows is proposing the board add the choir back into the junior high curriculum; add a wind band to junior high with the future plans of moving that program into the high school; improving the existing sound system in the cafeteria; and improving the curtains and lighting on the stage.
Vincent Schiavi avoids writing checks by paying most of his bills online or having payments automatically deducted from his bank account.
"Bill paying is a chore," said Schiavi, financial adviser and president of Schiavi & Co. in Wilmington. "Anything that makes bill paying easier and makes sure they are making the proper charges and makes it easier for people to pay on time, I am all for."
