Bhubaneswar, July 3: President A P J Abdul Kalam today asked the authorities of the Bhubaneswar Eye Institute to take up the challenge of curing a brilliant student who suffers from an eye ailment.Kalam, while inaugurating the institute, asked the opthalmologists to treat J Sonal, a boy from Balasore, about whom he had read in the newspapers.Sonal had secured 10th rank in the HSC exams this year and suffered from an eye ailment that prevented him from studying at a stretch for more then 20 minutes.The financial support required for the treatment could be arranged, Kalam assured thus giving BEI - a unit of the Hyderabad-based L V Prasad Eye Institute - its first patient as well.Referring to the fact that the boy could not study science because of the eye disorder, Kalam said, "I am sure the doctors of BEI will take this as a challenge and find a cure for the pigment problem encountered by Sonal".This treatment might definitely be helpful to many other patients having similar problems across the country, he said.
