HSBC launches student account packed full of money-saving features
HSBC is encouraging students to take a responsible approach to managing their finances while at university, with the launch of its 2006 student account packed full of money-saving features, including an interest-free overdraft up to £1,000 in first year and discounts on ‘student essentials' like books, music and computer equipment.
Trina Smith, student banking manager at HSBC, said: “With students facing tuition fees to the tune of £3,000 a year for the first time in 2006, and student loan income lagging behind typical outgoings by well over £5,500 last year, it's the money-saving features of their bank account that will make a real difference."
HSBC's 2006 student account offers first-year students up to £1,000 interest-free on their overdraft to help smooth their cash-flow between student loan instalments, and price promise insurance which refunds the difference on high street purchases if the same branded item is found more than £10 cheaper in another store - a real money-saver for students setting up home for the first time.
